Bow Village Hall and Field Project

April 2022

For the second part of our redevelopment of the field we hope to install a pump track.

What is a pump track?

According to frogbikes.co.uk, “A pump track is a small, looping trail that you can ride continuously without even pedalling! Eventually, your ability to gain momentum by simply ‘pumping’ out of any bumps or corners is what will deliver your speed on the track and negate the need to pedal. Pump tracks are fun and beneficial for people of all ages and abilities. A good pump track is designed so that anyone can use it, the only thing you need is the basic ability to ride a bike, or maybe even a scooter, skateboard or roller skates. The process of generating speed and momentum through “pumping” means that you control the risk involved.”

A pump track for Bow

Over the last 18 months we have been in contact with Kye Forte, a professional bike rider, track designer and builder who designed the track at North Tawton, to produce and cost a similar idea for us. He has submitted his ideas for a track suitable for all ages and abilities from beginners to those wishing to perfect their jumps. He is happy to work with our youngsters to incorporate their ideas and favourite jumps, to create a safe but adventurous space, but first we have to raise the money. A mere £60,000!

As a committee we have been busy applying for grants and have some ideas for fundraising as we all get happier socialising. However, we do need the support of the community to make this happen. To help you could:

· Donate online to our go-fund-me page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/bow-village-hall-and-field-project or contact Caroline Taylor or Jo Morgan to make a physical donation.

· Attend our fundraising events.

· Buy a breakfast at the monthly market or donate a cake or savoury to be sold at the market.

· Volunteer to help with planting trees or bulbs (again contact Caroline or Jo).

· Donate a raffle prize to be used at any of our fund-raising events

· Organise a fund-raising event of your own and donate the profits.

Once we raise the money, the track can be installed in only a few weeks, so the quicker we raise the money the sooner our community, and especially our young people, will have an exciting space in the centre of the village.
